As a well-being coach for busy women, I’m constantly amazed by how much we rely on external sources, whether it's the latest self-care trend, wellness app, or advice from others to guide our personal well-being. While these tools can be helpful, the truth is that no one knows what we need better than we do. That’s where intuitive well-being comes in.
Intuitive well-being is about listening to your body’s unique needs and finding what truly nourishes and sustains you. It’s a personal, self-directed approach to wellness that goes beyond following checklists or routines that don’t resonate. It’s about tuning into your inner voice and trusting that you are the expert of your own well-being.
The Power of Intuition in Well-Being
As women we often juggle multiple roles, career, family, relationships, and everything in between. In all that hustle it’s easy to forget to check in with ourselves. Intuitive well-being encourages you to pause, reflect, and reconnect with what you need to feel balanced, happy, and healthy.
But what does intuitive well-being look like in practice? Here are a few examples:
Saying no without guilt when you’ve reached your limit. Whether it’s declining a work task or passing on a social event, honoring your boundaries is essential.
Doing things that truly bring you joy, not just what you think you *should* be doing. Whether that’s reading a book, taking a nap, or spending time with loved ones, your joy matters.
Recognizing when your body needs rest or when your mind needs a break and giving yourself permission to slow down.
Trusting yourself to make decisions about your health and well-being, whether it’s deciding to go for a walk instead of doing a workout or taking a day off for self-care.
Moving Beyond Self-Care Checklists
Intuitive well-being goes far deeper than checking off self-care tasks. It’s about understanding what makes you feel nourished on every level—physically, emotionally, and mentally. There is no one-size-fits-all approach to well-being, and that’s what makes this journey so empowering. You don’t need to overhaul your entire routine to embrace intuitive well-being. In fact, it’s best to start small and build from there. Here are a few simple ways to get started:
Take a moment to pause: Set aside a few minutes each day to check in with yourself. Ask, “How am I feeling right now? What does my body or mind need in this moment?” Whether it’s a glass of water, fresh air, or quiet time, honor whatever comes up.
Tune into your energy: Notice how different activities or people make you feel. Do you feel energized after a certain activity or drained after a conversation? Use this awareness to guide your decisions moving forward.
Practice saying no: Saying no can feel difficult, especially as women, but it’s a powerful way to protect your energy and well-being. Start by setting small boundaries and work up to bigger ones as you feel more confident.
Be kind to yourself: Intuitive well-being is not about perfection. Some days you’ll feel in tune, and other days may feel chaotic, and that’s okay. Give yourself grace and trust that you’re doing your best.
